The Hearst Foundation has given a $75,000 grant to Hartwick College so that students in need of financial aid will have a higher chance of receiving it. This funding comes at a time when tuition costs are on the rise and the job market is fiercely competitive; this means that grants have never been in higher demand.

Who Will Receive the Financial Aid

The funding itself is aimed at juniors who are in desperate need of the aid so that they can complete their studies through this institution. According to the program officer with the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, Alison Yu, “In a competitive review process at the Hearst Foundations, Hartwick stood out for its efforts to recruit, educate and graduate a diverse student body, including many students who face significant financial challenges.” At the moment, Hartwick is one of 49 colleges that have received this funding from the foundation this year; the total amount of the funds that have been granted add up to about $4.7 million.

Students Receiving the Aid they Require

The students within Hartwick come from just about every type of background and socioeconomic status, and around 99% of students receive some type of financial aid. The average student receives about $18,000 in financial aid from the institution; this doesn’t include the aid that is obtained through state or federal sources. This type of assistance makes a big difference to those students who cannot afford to study, and it is organizations such as these that are contributing to the well being of a nation that will ultimately be better educated because of its efforts.
